Michael Rotumah is currently the CEO of the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation, a dynamic Aboriginal service delivery and business development membership-based organisation for Darwin's traditional owners, the Larrakia people. Michael is a well-known and highly respected Darwin born and bred Iwaidja man and traditional owner of Wauk (Murgenella) and Croker Island in Western Arnhem Land with significant experience at “Walking in Two Worlds” to achieve client objectives that reflect community and cultural expectations. Michael’s extensive national, local and remote network of professional and personal relationships has been built on trust and proven experience over 27 years in senior management positions while program and project managing national Indigenous housing and infrastructure programs for over 120 regional and remote Aboriginal communities as well as 300 outstations in the Northern Territory and Western Australia for the Australian and Northern Territory Governments. Michael has significant experience in the delivery of strategic planning, policy definition and implementation, cost estimating and management of major capital procurement, risk management, contract management, resolution of disputes and negotiations, organisational management, and communications.
In 2013, Michael as a part owner established a majority owned and managed Indigenous general building and civil construction business in Darwin including its growth interstate with an annual turnover of $40M with 65 permanent staff at over 90% Indigenous employment. After leaving the private sector, Michael then went on to work as the Director of Aboriginal Development for the Northern Territory Government Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics to provide expert advice to increase Aboriginal business and employment outcomes through NT Government procurement opportunities, including strategic projects under the National Partnership Agreements for Land Transport and Infrastructure, and Remote Housing Northern Territory. Michael is also a business owner of Air Conditioning and Electrical Services (ACES) and a Board Member and Director of several Darwin based Aboriginal Corporations.
